Hi guys!, i’m Ashen, I emigrated from Sri Lanka in the end of 2024, I voted for managing finances. Everything is so expensive here, from rent to groceries. Any tips to save money as a student?

Same here! I found shopping at budget supermarkets like Aldi or Lidl helps. Also, cooking at home instead of eating out saves a lot.

For finances, I’d recommend getting a student bank account with perks like interest-free overdrafts. Some banks like HSBC and Santander have good options for international students.

Finding accommodation was the hardest part for me. Does anyone know affordable places near London?

Check out university halls for your first year, they’re usually more affordable and easier to secure. For private options, SpareRoom or Zoopla are good websites.

I agree about halls! Plus, it’s a great way to meet other students and feel less homesick. After the first year, you can team up with friends to rent a flat, it’s usually cheaper that way.
